13 MAY, 2025 – Indie developer Squirrel Knight and publisher Digerati are delighted to announce Cosmic Waves, a brand new brick-breaking adventure coming to Steam later this year (exact date TBA). Inspired by arcade classic Breakout, Cosmic Waves radically revamps the familiar paddle-ball-wall formula with new features that bring greater depth, skill, and excitement to every bounce, rebound, and ricochet.

At the core of Cosmic Waves' unique gameplay are energy towers positioned at the vertical sides of each level. When fully charged, towers can be triggered by the player, causing them to emit a force wave that affects the path and power of any ball within its radius (in pinball terms, energy towers behave like a flipper and bumper combined). Balls energized and propelled by force waves can smash through shields and inflict greater damage on weapons and machinery.

To ensure a brick-breaking experience unlike any other, and in addition to tower-powered ball manipulation, Cosmic Waves features gadget enhanced paddles, action-packed levels, ability-boosting upgrades, a galaxy-spanning story, and amazing music by the super-talented Module (Shatter).

Blast-off for a brick-breaker adventure that’s out of this world! Cosmic Waves puts an entirely new spin on block destruction – the classic arcade genre made popular by games such as Breakout and Arkanoid. Control a super-powered paddle and emit cosmic force waves to smash blocks, shatter forcefields and destroy machines as you embark on a heroic mission to save the universe!

A new dynamic in ball control: Utilise up to four energy towers and release force waves capable of changing a ball’s momentum, trajectory, and power
Super-powered paddle action: Boost your brick-breaking with a range of special weapons, and use unlockable gadgets to further enhance paddle capabilities
Brick-breaking with a story: Join a duo of heroic wolves and their robot sidekick as they travel through space and face animal antagonists in a light-hearted adventure
Upgrade Station: Collect resources extracted from broken blocks or destroyed enemies and use them to increase weapon power, tower range, paddle durability and much more
Beyond blocks: Dynamic levels include a variety of different objects – switches, gun turrets, forcefields and more can all be targeted (sometimes with explosive results!)
Aim for a high-score: Completing a level is just the start! You’ll need to smash the target criteria if you want to get maximum points and earn an S-Rank
