I've never really dug the gametype that the original DOTA mod sprung from... but then again, very different games emerge from the game that was modded.
I have a mediocre laptop that can run a fair count of games pretty well. DOTA 2 isn't getting a lot of hype for giving one's PC a run for it's money, but I figured I'd ask.
I was given a beta key, so I could hop on right now and play if I wanted to.
How steep is the learning curve? I'm not a very good climber.

It's pretty steep, but if you find some friends who are willing to play with you, it's fun to learn and play. Overall, it's a lot of fun. I'm pretty terrible too, but it's just a game I know I personally can get into, so I find it utterly fascinating.

Anything by Valve is worth your time
i'll play Barbie's Adventure even if they made or collaborate with it. honestly, i havent tried dota yet, but i've downloaded. im more of an FPS player, anything strategy wise, i think Command & Conquer: Tiberium wars is very good.. sadly it didn't get as popular as dota.
international tournament would be so epic to watch as the gameplay is fair and many different ways to steamroll an enemy's base.

Do not judge a book by its movie.

DOTA 2's an excellent game, but that doesn't mean it'd be good for everybody. Like I wrote in the recent CCGR review, it is quite a harsh game, but exceedingly rewarding at times.
If you guys want, I could walk you through a game. Poke me up in Steam and we'll put up a game against bots and I'll teach you the basics

So many great custom games came out of WC3. Even though I didn't play it when WC3 was alive, I do remember it being pretty great. People got serious about it pretty fast.ScotchRobbins wrote:I've never really dug the gametype that the original DOTA mod sprung from... but then again, very different games emerge from the game that was modded.
