Yeah, I wouldn't call it hate speech, and I think you're the only one who I've ever heard call it that, but I can certainly understand Christians taking offense at the game. The game itself is tight, I love it.
The messages can be mixed, yes. But then again, it came from a society where the population is 1% Christian. Won't expect bible verses popping up in battle, hehe.
