1. First we must look at the basis of forgiveness.
a. According to Matthew 26:28 what was it that allowed for the forgiveness
of sin? shedding of Christ's blood.
b. According to Ephesians 1:7 how did the forgiveness of sins come to us?
redemption through Christ's blood
c. According to Hebrews 9:22 what is the basis for the forgiveness of sin?
shedding of blood.
Since we need forgiveness for the breaking of God’s law and there must
be the shedding of innocent blood in order to bring forgiveness, who is the
only person that has ever lived that could shed his innocent blood and be
able to forgive sin by it? Jesus.
In order for our sin to be forgiven by God or for us to forgive other
people’s sin what is needed? Christ's death.

Christ's blood was shed for the forgiveness of sin.

b. According to Ephesians 1:7 how did the forgiveness of sins come to us?

The riches of his grace.

c. According to Hebrews 9:22 what is the basis for the forgiveness of sin?

Without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness.

Since we need forgiveness for the breaking of God’s law and there must
be the shedding of innocent blood in order to bring forgiveness, who is the
only person that has ever lived that could shed his innocent blood and be
able to forgive sin by? Jesus Christ. Holy son of God.

In order for our sin to be forgiven by God or for us to forgive other
people’s sin what is needed? A sacrifice and a choice.

For the record, I'm using a Holman Translation.

perhaps to make this more interactive we could post our thoughts after doing each section

I'm thankful we don't live in the times where animal sacrifices were needed :)

Now we will consider what is necessary on our part in order for sin to be
forgiven.
a. According to Mark 11:25 what do we need to do so that the Father in
heaven will forgive our sins? forgive others
b. According to Acts 2:38 what are the two things that are mentioned before
the forgiveness of sin takes place? repent and be baptized
(Note: This baptism is referring to being baptized into the blood of Jesus,
or being “born again” [John 3:3], not water baptism.
c. According to 1 John 1:9 what do we need to do in order to have our sins
forgiven? confess them

I was staring at the Acts verse wondering if we were going to have another baptizing debate and then I saw the note. I agree that baptism is important and an act of obedience but not required for your sins to be forgiven. Acknowledging sins is convicting since it's easy to say God forgive my many sins but if we mention the specific sins it brings repentance

A: forgive others, so that God will forgive us.

B: We need to repent, and be baptized in the name of Christ.

C: We need to confess our sins.

It boggles my mind that the way to forgiveness can be so simple. Maybe not easy, but simple.

Also, I wondered that too, CCGR. :D I agree with you. Faith, grace, and blood. Not water.

A) Forgive others to be forgiven.

B) Repent and baptize yourselves in the name of Jesus Christ to be forgiven.

C) Confess your sins to the Lord Jesus so you can be forgiven.

I agree with both of you, it is simple yes and you do need faith, grace and blood, but we also need love.

If you look carefully you can see the love of Jesus in every word.

3. Who has the ability to forgive sin? Jesus
a. According to Matthew 9:6 who has the authority to forgive sin? Jesus.
a. According to Acts 13:38 through whom does the forgiveness of sin
come? Jesus
b. According to 2 Corinthians 2:10 who has the ability to forgive? Christ

The message is pretty clear here I think. One thing I never understood growing up Catholic is why priests think they can forgive sins. I tell my family forget the priest talk to God and ask for yourself

2) The One whom God raised--Jesus

3) Jesus, and also us, in the presence of Christ.

Yeah. Forgiveness isn't something that can be earned, I guess. It's also becoming steadily clearer that I can't forgive others if I don't ask God to help.

I guess forgiveness is something you choose to do, not something that comes that simply?

I mean, I always kind of thought that. But it never really dawned on me. I can look back, and think of times this was painfully clear. But only looking back. :)

Sorry i'm late.

The message comes through very clearly that you cannot forgive without Jesus.

Would you be able to forgive someone who was doing something horrible
to you the way Jesus forgave? I'm not honestly sure. I dearly hope so.

This week was hard. I know that I don't forgive people the way I should. If I need to forgive them the way God forgives us, that means no strings attached. I should even forget they hurt me. I don't do that at present. I'm going to work hard on it. That, and forgiving others as many times as it takes to get the job done.

As a side note, I've always wanted to tell somebody that "According to the bible, I only have to forgive you 490 times." :)
