Would you like Anime Catholicism in games? + Idea for such a game featuring it

Great for talking hardware, hype, and games outside traditional genres.

We know that religion is a touchy subject for most people and that it's frowned upon to alter its content or make it too silly, as such when it comes to videogames that are heavily based on religion (and not just as minor mechanic like going to a church to save the game and restore HP, or just have elements of the religion apperear for show with no real significance) they either:
1) use a made-up-one that is supposed to represent one that's real by being similar to it
2) use an old one that nobody cares about that will instil almost no controversy whatsoever (killing half of the Greek-Roman pantheon in God of War is A-OK, but I bet that a version of it based on Christianity, Islan or Shinto beliefs would not be accepted nearly as much)
3) try to keep it both accurate to the source material while also trying not to accidentally paint the belief system or its followers in a bad light

Of course the reason for that is that if some people that happen to be part of that creed they might be offended by the portrayal of the religion and might not want to buy the game (or some more "hardcore" believers might ditch all games made by that developer alltogether, aswell as simply believing that using their beliefs in a videogame is akin to ridiculing them), and that would also make the developers themselves look insensitive by making light of someone's beliefs and they'd recieve a bad press if such a game were to be relased.
Adding to this the fact that people LOVE to complain about videogames like they're the source of all evils ("DId YoU kNoW tHaT hItLeR pLaYeD vIdEoGamEs!?") we know why a game like this might never happen, however there are some examples of more creative and wacky representation of beliefs in places where they aren't that popular, like Anime Catholicism (TV Tropes page if you want more info about it: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/ ... atholicism ) being a thing because Christianity is a minor religion in Japan and thus they can take a bit more creative freedom with it without making too many people angry.

Even if I linked the page, I'll still summarize what most of Anime Catholicism tends to feature:
1) Christianity is portrayed as magic, mystique and misteryous (and Chatolicism is the most prominent version of it)
2) the Bible works like a spellbook, reciting various verses from it can let you cast spells to heal people, exorcise demons etc. depending on the verse(s) you recite, often accompanied by flashy, colorful magic effects
3) priests and nuns are cool-looking badasses that are agile and good at martial arts or using weapons, chances are they are also expecially skilled at using said holy magic mentioned in POINT 2
4) instead of just leading people into sin/danger or possessing them, demons are very clear menaces that attack, kill and destroy stuff (and they tend to be solid most of the time, they are either undetectable to "unholy people" or they have the ability to become invisible), as such priests and nuns tend to work as a sort of "Demonbusters" to get rid of them either via exorcism or via blasting them with led/slashing them into bits
5) unlike the black and white morality of the Bible where most angels (except Satan and a few other ones that have betrayed God like he did) would never cause unnecessary harm or act evil, or how demons are always up to something bad (if it looks like they aren't, they're just acting good at the start to screw you up harder later after they've got your trust), both holy beings and demons tend to have a greyer morality and aren't fully good or fully bad (only exceptions being God and Satan, which are always good and bad respectively), with some even able to switch sides or remain neutral. Chances are great exorcists can tame demons into becoming good, or at least turn them into their loyal supernatural pets if they are of the "not particularly intelligent/animal-like demon" kind of demons
6) both demons and holy creatures also tend to have super wacky and creative designs instead of the usual dove-winged angels and bat-winged red demons pop colture popularised, expect a lot of malicious animals with horn and dark powers for demons and white, fluffy and elegant things for their "holy" equivalent. If they have human forms, both angels and demons will wear fancy and cool clothes, possibly with light or dark shades of colors respectively, aswell as having light blue and red/purple eye colors respectively
7) they tend to ignore or alter parts of the belief to make it cooler and more engaging; doing either minor changes, like changing supernatural entities' abilities, or altering major concepts that would change Christianity itself big time; essentially they like taking liberties with the source material, a famous one in that case is that Satan isn't stuck in Hell/Gahenna but he acts more like an evil yet weaker counterpart to God (like a sort of malicious discount deity) that is hiding on Earth and is working on a plan to defeat God, or he just stays there and spends time tempting or harming people or spawning demons and sending them around the globe

With that said, would you like a game with heavily Christian imagery and themes that takes the Anime Catholicism/"change stuff up about Christianity if it benefits the gameplay"-approach to it?
To make an example, I'mma describe an idea I have for how a game like this might work.

Maybe you play as a young cleric or a believer teen that has just witnessed an attack by demons on a church and a demon you captured and forced to speak tells you that there will be similar attacks coming in various other places aroung the world, they then decide to embark on a journey around the globe to combat the demon invasion and save Earth (with the demon unwillingly following them under the threat of being exorcised and possibly being forgiven by God if he helps stop the invasion); thus the young cleric picks up a shotgun (gunner character, ranged fighter), the priest a Bible (magic user, can cast various kind of attacking, healing and utility spells themed after "holy light" and crosses, kinda like in the old Dante's Inferno game: https://thumbs.gfycat.com/AllMemorableB ... ricted.gif . Healing spells and other stronger attack ones cost mana), a nun a katana (sword user and fast and agile attacker, don't ask why there'd be a sword just laying around in a church... ) and the demon uses his demonic powers (another magic user, more tanky than the priest with slower yet more damaging hits, spells themed after fire and pentagrams).
The game would be a sort of Beat-em'-Up where you travel the world and go around the streets of cities, beating up the demons that are terrorizing the town while trying to reach the local church wich is the main target of said demons, where an end-of-the-stage Boss fight against a super strong monstrous being from Hell takes place (like the three-headed-dog Cerberus or other similar monsters).
The final stage could be Hell/Gahenna itself, which instead of being just a lake of fire it could be a sort of "rocky and barren land with volcanoes and a sea of lava" inhabited by demons, Satan himself would act as the final boss, which would be in a monstrous form (possibly with your usual horns and bat wings and such that he's portrayed as having in pop colture).

Assuming that it's developed well enough and its gameplay is fun and engaging, a game like this would be a ton more likely to be enjoyed by people compared to most of the "washed down" Christian games we get due to how cool and edgy it'd be and how it'd not be forced to follow the Bible, thus it culd prioritize gameplay and creativity more (also it should have no boring Bible quizzes or lectures that only super-hardcore Christians or elderly soccer moms care about, excet for the occasional Biblical passage spoken in a deep voice to set up the mood at the start of a chapter's first cutscene or something), but it'd also be much more likely to stir controversy due to the large amount of liberties it takes with the faith and the much more action/fighting approach with a religion that tends to be more about niceness and caring. Essentially it'd trade some "acceptance points" in exahcnge for "gameplay/fun points".

Personally I'd eat up a game like this in the bat of an eye, I adore Christian imagery and it'd be a fun change from all the Greek-Roman/Egyptian mithology-themed games, it'd bring some fresh air.
Also let's not forget about the ominous or majestic chanting that could accompany the music score, with Church organs and stuff, itd be so good!
So what are your thoughts about a game that takes liberties with Christianity and makes it more cool/badass for a more fun gameplay experience in exchange for much lower (or barely existant) theological accuracy and/or lowkey blasphemy?

I'd rather have more fun without the blasphemy but would be open-minded to try it regardless
