Fallout 4: How do I remove some questionable content?

Great for talking hardware, hype, and games outside traditional genres.

Hello,
I'm new to this forum but as the name of the forum sums up my goal as a gamer I thought I would check it out.

Since fallout 4 has come out recently I heard about the fallout games for the first time and love the open world first person type of game and wanted to try it. But as it has quite a lot of cursing I would like to remove that and tame down the blood and gore. I do not want it to take away from the game play like turning the blood into rainbows or replacing all cuss words with the word lama. I am OK with substitutes like dang, darn, heck, and crap and some blood and gore. Although I haven't seen any; if there is any sexual content that will need to be removed.

I think it is a real shame that every open world first person rpg is rated "M". So if you know of any good ones let me know.

Thanks,
Nedla2000

The game itself doesn't have the ability to reduce the amount of blood or language so it's up to the gaming community to modify it

Yes that is why I am asking here. I have seen profanity filters and mods to lessen blood and gore on older versions of fallout but since I know nothing about fallout I didn't know if i was missing something.

found this doing a google search
you can try bDisableAllGore=1 in the .ini file to remove gore from the kill animations, but it won't remove the bloody body part decorations used in super mutant hideouts.
Can't find anything for Fallout 4 on the language, previous Fallout games have user mods so maybe there will be one for this game eventually

My thought exactly. Maybe someone in the community can start work on that. I would be glad to help but I dont know how to code.

I've found two options. *Please note this will only work on PC*
I don't own the game so I can't test it. If you own the game can you please test these two and report back here if they work. I would add it to the thread where I'm gathering no blood/gore, modesty and no swear mods, options, settings, etc. It's something the community here values.

Here's a configuration tool that allows you to tweak a bunch of things.
http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/102/?
You'll find the blood toggle check box on the 4th picture from the left. (you'll have to click the right arrow once and it will be the middle picture).

Here's a no blood mod: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/2749/?
I don't know if it stops people from gibbing (exploding into chunks), but if someone would report that back here who owns the game the community could benefit from it.

Good luck in your hunt. I know Lance (sevrick) on Nexus mods has plans to do a language filter for Fallout 4. Currently there's no official tool set to do edits for Fallout 4 yet.
He made the fallout 3 language filter: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/14159/ and the fallout new vegas language filter: http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/48842/. *Please be aware that he only removed stronger language so you're still going to hear swear words. I have plans to make a full no swear mod for Fallout 3, but am having difficulty learning the tools and getting them to work.

Also if you're interested in any of the first two games I made no swear mods for them. They can be found here:

Thanks! Yes I saw your post but didn't see anything for fallout 4 so I posted here. I still don't know if I will get the game just because I'm a scaredy cat and will jump three feet in the air when a raider comes up behind me. I am glad that lance is making one for fallout 4 and the main reason I don't want cussing is I don't use headphones and I have 3 younger siblings. What I think would be fun is if you replaced all the cuss words with funny ones like the ones in Tim hawkens 101 Christian cuss words video. Some of them are: Fart knocker, son of a motherless goat, and crud muffin.

Usually it's a lot of effort to remove swearing from a game so I don't try to do replacement words. If it's text only that's easy to re-arrange, but some audo simply can't be edited to still get the meaning without the cursing so I opt to give as much context as I can without the cursing. Part of why I don't do replacement words is because I could record audio, but it would making edits awkwardly obvious as to when they take place (it would be a different voice). I simply remove the words/phrases in question. It's faster that way. Some will edits will be more noticeable, but others tend to not be noticed as easily because the words is quick and the speech engine used by most Bethesda RPGs isn't exactly perfect. The speech engine articulates the character mouths based on the sound file. This saves the developers a ton of time by not having to manually animate all faces for voices.

My recommendation would be to wait for a while. The game will be cheaper, no less exciting later (in my opinion), and may have better modding support. I plan to eventually buy the game and try to do modding for it, but it's not going to happen anytime soon. If I do work on a game, I usually wait till all dlc is out and prices have come down. -that and I've got tons of modding projects that keep my busy anyway. :D

Yeah at the moment it costs a fortune. I didn't think that you could do replacement words but I just thought it would be funny. I am going to start learning C# after Christmas break and hope to do some modding as well.

The guy, Sevrick , who made a language filter for Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas has started a similar mod for Fallout 4. You can find it here:
http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/54/?

Just to note, similar to his other mods it does not remove D and H words. He is working on it so most of the game has not be filtered yet.

I found his methods to be a bit unreliable. He plays the game and makes edits for people he hears swear, or makes edits for character that people tell him need edits, which means he's going to miss a lot of dialog. It's better than nothing though. If you find something that needs editing, reach out to him on http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/users/972144/? and let him know. Then he'll edit it. I kinda wish he was making a full no swear mod with a much better way to look at all the dialog, but at least he's doing something. If you would like a full no swear mod, he has stated a few times he might make it so if enough people ask he may do it.

I'm still working on a full no swear mod for fallout 3. It will take a while because I'm going through all dialog and character one by one using the mod tools. Longer and more tedious than Sevrick's method, but ensures that I don't miss things. I looked at his fallout 3 filter mod and he's missed tons of things. Either way I'm grateful someone is trying to remove the swearing from the game.

Did it the same way with my own fo3 anti-blasphemy mods, terrible on the eyes longterm. The geck actually has a search function for that in the diologue section though I found accidentally after doing my fnv mods. Which is why atm the fnv mods got patches but not fo3 yet, sometime this month gonna do that probably. Only touched blasphemy way back when half to prove a point and half because it's less effort.... LOT of swearing in these games.
