Dolphins in 2018

According to this article by PC Gamer, dolphins will be coming to Minecraft. As well as shipwrecks, coral reefs, different ocean biomes, and more! One thing that the author seemed especially excited about was the addition of tridents, which will serve as both a melee and a ranged weapon, depending on the situation.

Apparently, the new fan-voted mob was announced as well. It will be a flying stingray which is attracted to insomnia. In other words, if you haven't slept in days, it will hunt you down. I wonder if there will be in game penalties for not sleeping as well.

My daughters were excited about these additions - what about you?

Dolphins? Yay! Awesomesauce! I’m so excited!

An insomnia stingray? Interesting. It’s kinda hard to sleep in Prism, because then everyone has to sleep too..... We'll see how that works out.

When are they going to add it all to the game? Spring maybe?

EDIT: Oh lol article says Spring

*sits by waiting for a village update*

lol seriously though, this update does seem pretty cool. I'm glad they are adding stuff to the ocean, as the ocean is pretty bland right now. Though I think players that play on servers with many people aren't gonna be happy about the new fan-mob that hunts you down when you haven't slept (it's already a nightmare trying to get more than like 6 or more players asleep at once). Aside from that I think it will be a pretty cool update! Loving the idea of shipwrecks, I wonder what will be inside them. :D

I'm wondering if there will be some sort of a "rest" meter added to the game. There already is a bit of a mechanic to it, as more active things such as jumping and combat wear down your hunger meter. They just might add a different dimension to something that already is in place.

Also, right now the only purpose to sleeping is to change the time from night to day. With this system, people could go ahead and rest even while others are active in order to fill up their "resting" meter. And possibly persuade the flying stingray to go chase down someone else. ;)

The drawback to this idea, of course, is now there will be something else people will have to pay attention to besides health and hunger (and if they are underwater, air. Which will become a bigger issue with this update, of course. Hmm... I wonder if you can replenish your breathing meter with the columns of air bubbles they will be adding? Just a thought...). So some players may end up taking issue with that, claiming that the addition will make the game more complex.

I'm psyched about shipwrecks!!

I also think it's cool that they are fixing the way water flows around fence posts, slabs and stairs. It drove me crazy when I would try to build a dock or a ship and it looked so weird. It looks like it will wreck some auto-farms but It's always fun to find new ways to build auto farms. (Maybe it won't flow around signs? We would be in big trouble if they changed that since so many auto farms rely on signs as keeping water in place).

I'm disappointed in the mob poll though, I thought the crocodile dog was cute. But I suppose we need a flying mob...

and oceans are going to be so beautiful now!!

That would be odd if they added football players to Minecraft!

I like the new underwater features, the oceans definitely needed an update.

Mob B will be interesting, another thing to be aware of when AFKing.

As for the water physics, I just don't know. Personally, I'm sad that lots of farm will break, but on the other hand I don't do much underwater building, so my opinion is kinda biased.

Dolphins are going to be very cool when 1.13 is releases. It turns out that they will equip armor that is thrown at them, which is really interesting.
