This is a villanelle* I wrote for my Literary Genres class. I got a lot of positive feedback on it, and really enjoyed it, so I decided to post it here. Let me know what you think, guys?

Freed from the Darkness

The darkness once blinded, you could not see.
A bloody war for your soul was fought,
But you are forgiven, you are set free.

Wrapped in denial of what you could be,
Hatred and sorrow from power was wrought.
The darkness once blinded, you could not see.

Then up rose a cry, from a lush valley:
"There's healing and love to cleanse every spot!"
But you are forgiven, you are set free.

You heard a trumpet sound and tried to flee,
Writhing and toiling as your chains grew hot.
The darkness once blinded, you could not see.

Angels descended and made their decree:
"Release him!" They screamed, loosing light they brought.
But you are forgiven, you are set free.

Purity gained from the Holiest Three.
With blood and pain, your darkest sin was bought.
The darkness once blinded, you could not see.
But you are forgiven, you are set free.

*a villanelle is a 19-line poem, written in iambic pentameter, with very specific line repetition scheme.
