I turn 39 tomorrow.

Happy birthday to you!

Happy birthday to me!

Cake for everybody! I baked it myself! A nice computer named GladOS gave me the recipe!

Yay for you! One small problem...

GLaDOS tends to lie... just a little... generally about cake and grief counseling.

So you're a VALVE kind of guy?

Only when I need to let off some Steam. :P

In all honesty, most of the games I've seen coming from Valve tend to be first person shooters, which is my least favorite game genre. So the only Valve games I've actually played have been the ones they've provided for free - Portal during a promotion they did when they released Steam for the Mac, and Team Fortress 2. I don't have TF2 installed right now (I needed the hard drive space) and I've never played it on-line. Once I get a new laptop I may give it another go, though... especially knowing that this group has a TF server (which probably will help with my trepidations with playing on-line).

Play games, of course! :D Or browse the Web... but half the time, I'm looking up something related to games or the game industry.

You really need to try Portal 2.

Seriously.

Hmm... you make a very convincing argument. I think I'll rush out and buy it right now! You should be in sales!

Actually, I loved the first Portal and would own Portal 2 by now... but my poor computer couldn't handle it. I tried to fire up Portal just a few weeks ago, and it sounded like a jet engine was about to explode under my keyboard. When I get a new laptop (maybe with Christmas bonus money), it's definitely one game I'll try to get, though.

I could... but I can't write novels on a PlayStation. Or design art (not that I do that much any more... but I made my little avatar picture thingy over there on the left! See it?)

In a sense, both. I am a college graduate - twice. AA degree from a community college, and a BA in English from a four-year university.

No plans to go back, though. I've done my time, got my papers, and want to get rid of the student loans, rather than keep adding to them.

No. You are, however, the best. It's why I chose to join this one. :)

Struggle from month to month, and view it as a success if I finish with the bank account in the black.

I've found that the best way to do this is to work at a title company about an hour's drive - one way - from home. It's a long commute, but I don't mind long drives. It helps to pay the bills until I get my big break in writing and publishing a novel or two. I've got the writing part done (including finishing the third edit on a novel this morning), so now I just need to find a publisher....
