Well, sand is more fine and could get in their eye... on the other hand, dirt would sully them more. I guess it would depend on the reason I would want to throw something in their face in the first place.

I suppose, if you were in a situation where you were for some reason laden with multiple buckets of chicken that would otherwise go to waste... however unlikely that scenario might be.
