Okay, sorry for being so passive on this matter. Glad you guys are excited!

Here's my proposition:
We do first a "quick" test game.
We team up people in teams of 2, with one player more experienced, so that he or she may be able to instruct and give hints to the other half during the game.
We also insert AI players in the game in teams of 2.
Map type: Continents (semi-safe, more focused on interacting with people in the same island)
Map size according to how many people are willing to dedicate to the game.
Speed: Quick (I personally prefer marathon games in Civ, but I consider this infeasible in such a multiplayer game)
Difficulty: This can be adjusted personally. I would suggest, that experienced one in the team takes King difficulty, while the newer player taking Chieftain difficulty. These difficulty levels will mostly change percentage based bonuses during the game.
All victory conditions available
You may choose any civilization you wish.
We include Gods n' Kings if everybody has it, leave it out if at least 1 interested CCGR'er doesn't have it. No other DLCs or mods.

I would prefer us to set a day that we try to play a game every week or every other week. All participants would be ready to play 1 or 2 hours in the set dates, after which we agree on when to stop, save and continue later on. I am euro zone (GMT + 2, EST +7 I believe).

If somebody can't make it while everybody else is present, or wishes to leave in middle of the game, acknowledge that an AI will replace the player and continue the game. Therefore things may be messed up the next time you actually take control again. Alternatively we may try this multiplayer bot thingie you guys posted, but I think set dates may work rather well (?).

I think with this setup we could finish a game in several weeks. This is just my wild guess though.

How about Saturdays EST 4 pm / GMT 9 pm / 11 pm my time? Leaves me nice couple hours to play before still comfortably going to bed. We could maybe start next weekend :)

Those settings sound good, especially for a starter game.

If it's not PBEM, I don't think I can do it for now. My weekends will have to start being dedicated to some packing and my gaming will be a little sporadic.

I think that will work for me, and those suggestions sound fine.

Thankfully, Weekends can be pretty open for me.

I have absolutely zero experience with Civilization. I have never played it. But I'm game to try it out.

I am prepared to take the hate.

Alright guys and gals, time to move from words to action!

I've set up a test game with this Multiplayer Robot site/mod that Arch suggested. So far it looks very promising, although the game customization options were rather limited. This is kind of a Play By E-mail concept, players do not have to be playing simultaneously, but instead post turns and gather information from others once everybody is finished, at least so I think.

I am giving people one week (7 days) time to join before the game is initiated.

This game does not require Gods n' Kings expansion. Pick any civilization you wish.

Most of all, join if you are interested in learning and playing. Civ games can be fierce, but I don't think this should be taken too seriously. So don't be shy to join even if you have zero experience from games so far.

There are maximum of 12 player slots, I will remove AI players if many are interested and then fill the remaining slots with AIs.

I put up a turn timer: a player has maximum amount of 3 days to make his or her turn. If a player skips 4 consecutive turns, he or she is kicked from the game. I have no idea if these are good values, just out of my head.

Try the following invite links:
http://multiplayerrobot.com/Game/Join/2 ... 5a0de923d1
http://multiplayerrobot.com/Game/Join/2 ... 76a470bce4
http://multiplayerrobot.com/Game/Join/2 ... 5a7a861b16
http://multiplayerrobot.com/Game/Join/2 ... 7c2f908c1e
http://multiplayerrobot.com/Game/Join/2 ... 0ba530e44f
http://multiplayerrobot.com/Game/Join/2 ... ec7d0b5597

I think each of the invite links works only once, as the game is private, so if it fails to work please try the next one. It would not let me adjust specific Civ options yet, such as difficulty or map size/type, so I am assuming we need to first have people join it in order to do that. Once the game is initiated, I don't think more can join.

Let's hope this works! :)

Snagged the second. Anything else I need to do?

I don't think you need to do anything besides logging in with Steam and accepting the game invite somehow. I haven't been able to test the game start procedure myself - everybody I tried to get to test with me were too hesitant to log in with Steam account :) and it wouldn't let me try start a solo game with Multiplayer Robot...

I can see Arch in the game, but I can't see you there Deep; are you sure you accepted the game joining after clicking the link?

I clicked the link again...and that option was definitely not there when I initially clicked. Maybe it's because I had to dig to find my password for Steam and the session timed out. I dunno.

Either way, I think I've actually joined now. :P

I found that the first time I had to log in, and so when I clicked the second time, I was able to get to the join page.

Alright guys, the game is on.

I have uploaded the first hotseat savegame to the Multiplayer Robot -service. See if it works, I think it's ArchAngel's turn first after me.

Things have been pretty hectic this weekend (a move + superbowl), so I'll try to get to it as soon as I can, but I apologize if I don't take the turn soon.
