Re: Religion in Gaming

Found this article that further talks about what I've been saying. It's a good read.

Build Me a Gaming PC!

Look. I've been out of the hardware biz for a minute and I'm not sure what the greatest hardware bang for my buck is. I recently got approved for a line of credit through Newegg and I plan on taking advantage of any Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals they may have. They have a number of DIY kits that l...

Re: Religion in Gaming

Perhaps I've been inarticulate, or unclear, but it seems like you're missing the point I'm trying to send home. This story vs. message debate isn't a zero sum game. If you respect your characters and what they're going through the message will come through naturally, holistically. And if something y...

Re: Religion in Gaming

As Chesterton said of HG Wells: Mr. Wells is a born storyteller who has sold his birthright for a pot of message
That's precisely it. A good message does not a good story make, whereas a good story will make a good message shine.

Re: Religion in Gaming

If I may borrow from Scripture, you can't serve two masters. The task of telling a good story (or making a good game) and adroitly crafting a spiritual message are so overwhelming that to try to tackle both you're guaranteed to do both poorly. They each demand and deserve so much care by themselves ...

Re: Star Citizen

Right. Squadron 42 is going to be stand-alone content. If you want to get into the content where you can go do stuff with friends then you'll need to get into the larger persistent universe of Star Citizen . But the $30 that gets you Squadron 42 also gets you the larger world. So it's all good. Here...

Re: Religion in Gaming

It's often a poor facsimile with a preach message tacked on. Gaming is an art, and art is an expression of oneself, and religion is very central to many people. I think people need to spend a little more time falling in love with gaming and really find what of their religion resonates within them, ...

Re: 10 Things We Should Know About Atheists

What if there are dozens - or hundreds - of people who have claimed to have seen the unicorn, and you're the only one who hasn't? Does eyewitness testimony or personal experiences count as evidence? Well, this is an entirely fictional scenario, so bringing it back to the real world situation: I wou...

Re: 10 Things We Should Know About Atheists

ArchAngel, Did you read my rather lengthy post about my experiences with the demonic? Just curious because it was in the thread where we all bared our souls to one another and I never saw you reply to what I wrote. I did, and I think I'm supposed to get back to you on that. I apologize for dropping...

Re: Prepare yourself! NaNo 2014 is coming!

I have very mixed (read: negative) feelings about ever submitting anything to a publisher. Selling my soul isn't really my game. A filmmaker friend of mine asked me how I felt about selling out. "In a heartbeat," I told him. He smiled and said that was the right answer. That doesn't mean I'll write...

Re: Prepare yourself! NaNo 2014 is coming!

Do you chaps do anything with what you produce? Is it just for the challenge or do you have commercial aspirations? The prose format isn't my first choice, but I do have a novel or two knocking around my head. I just love film too much to leave screenwriting to the side. And, of course, I write with...
