What is Christ Centered Gamer?
Videogame Evangelism
The videogame industry is huge, surpassing Hollywood in both audience and sales (1). Many popular toys and movies have affiliated videogames as part of their marketing strategy. Did you know that roughly 72% of the population in the US plays videogames? (2) This number grows every year as mobile gaming takes off. Videogames are not just for computers anymore; you can also play games on consoles, portable consoles, tablets, and cell phones.
Videogames range from simple puzzle games to violent and gritty war games. Sadly, some of the games out there promote senseless violence and sexual promiscuity. It doesn’t end there. You’ll also find foul language and pagan religious practices in many popular games as well.
With so many games out there, how can you know which ones are good for your family?
ChristCenteredGamer.com looks at video games from two view points. We analyze games on a secular level which will break down a game based on its graphics, sound, stability and overall gaming experience. This aspect attracts visitors of all religions to the site to see how fun a game is and if it’s worth buying. If you’re concerned about the family friendliness of a game, we have a separate moral score which looks at violence, language, sexual content, occult references and other ethical issues. We point out all the questionable content we see so that Christians and parents can make an educated buying decision. Our reviews also feature a highlights box where you can quickly find the strengths, weaknesses and moral concerns of a game without having to read all of the text.
Besides reviews we also offer game demos, raffles, interactive forums and game servers. We currently have two game servers online. Minecraft is a popular building game where you can mine and build architectural wonders while seeking shelter at night to avoid monsters attacking you. Our Minecraft server is protected by a Whitelist which only grants members from our site access to it. Team Fortress 2 is a popular game that was recently made free to play. Our server has the blood disabled and swearing is not tolerated. Both of these servers are played on and moderated by fellow Christian believers and gamers. We even have non-Christian gamers who frequent our servers and forums since the environment is friendly and swearing-free.
We try to be welcoming while not compromising on our beliefs. We try to bridge the gap between popular game sites and Christianity. Most of the games we review are mainstream but we do review Christian games when given an opportunity to do so. We offer Christian game developers an outlet to promote their games when secular sites don’t give them the time of day.
Thanks for visiting ChristCenteredGamer.com and we hope that you found what you’re looking for.
In Him,
Cheryl Gress
