If a song gets in my head, I'll do anything to get rid of it - even watching Barney...(hey, it works - but then you get that "I love you" song stuck in your head instead).

I doubt you could get me to watch Barney. *shudders*

You know - he would make a good target...
Eugh...

Now, that makes me want to use a gun large enough to completely obliterate him.

An M82A1 could probably take him down, but I dunno about obliteration:
A howitzer on the other hand...
I'd rather nuke the dino though.

Good. Please don't mention him again.
The health book my mom wanted me to read had a little blip on firearm safety-mostly 'don't touch without an adult around.' I had to laugh. Considering that I am technically an adult....

Is it a health book for adults - or kids?

If you were to ask me... "gun control" and "firearm safety" are the same thing: learning how to responsibly use a gun. Parents who own guns should take their kids out and teach them how to handle a gun and that using a gun for anything other than its intended purpose (hunting, defense) is uncool.
America needs to lose its fear of firearms because they are no more than a means to an end. School shootings may be a problem, but school kids have just as much ability to knife, choke, or otherwise kill as they do with a gun. The gun isn't the issue, the society we live in (and sometimes, parenting) is the problem.
Does that mean that I think having a gun case and other preventative measures are a bad thing? Not at all, but they should not (and cannot) be depended on as the only way to protect kids from guns.

I agree wholeheartedly, Xian.
....
Which makes me rather hesitantly admit that my brother keeps an AR-15 in an unlocked gun case in our bedroom. And ammo is everywhere(not lying on the ground or anything, but it is everywhere).

I think the book is for kids-maybe jr. high. Don't know why mom wanted me to use it.
Good points, Xian. I've taken firearm safety, and some precautions are certainly warranted, but I find people who panic at guns to be overreacting. Just consider how many ways you could kill someone with your bare hands.
That is a bit disturbing, Laz. All the firearms at our house can be easily locked up in some fashion.

We do have a gun cabinet that holds some other firearms - I assume he'll start keeping it in there sooner or later.
I'm not that worried about it though - none of the girls are allowed in our room(and vice-versa), and the penalites for simply opening that gun case would be... well let's just say Dad would blow a gasket.

Interesting. Do your sisters know how to handle guns?

About the only time I can remember was when one of my sisters(about 10 at the time, I think) was shooting a friend's Marlin with us.
Dad hasn't let them take any gun classes yet.
...Actually, I don't know if he ever will. Dad can be kinda strange about these things.

That's weird, Laz. Does he think guns are a guy-only thing or something? My dad certainly doesn't.
