Yeah, I thought she was too (just giving a common complaint people have for sake of argument). Even though she was slow, she at least had a straight forward game play style. She was actually a good example of how to mix up the Sonic format.

Exactly, and that's the beauty of letting you play each character by themselves, you can hone your skills and appreciate the character more than just randomly being thrust into their story.

It still wouldn't be as playable, regardless. Look at this from a game developer's perspective. If they didn't allow you to play as Knuckles, there would be millions of complaints around the world that a Sonic character has gone missing. And the complaints won't just be from Sonic fans, either.

The game is just more flexible that way.

When did I say that you shouldn't play as Knuckles?

You didn't. But you did say that you wished the game had just Sonic and Shadow. And it was also mentioned that the stages made for Knuckles were slow and boring.

In my personal opinion, all characters in the Sonic universe reflect Sonic's personality in some way shape or form.

Maybe. But why is Sonic Generations considered to be the best Sonic game since.. well, the Genesis days?

Look at Mario games. You normally play as Mario, but then you can unlock Luigi, who is very similar to Mario but with a few differences.

The Sonic games become very very repetitive after you play as the third or so character. Playing as Tails would have been enough in Sonic Adventure, but they decided to add in more characters that didn't really do much except give you their perspective of the story. I know they might have made a few changes, but Sonic is the star of the show when it comes down to it. The other characters become very boring, very quickly.

Also, the Sonic levels are 10 times more fun. So it really brings the game down when you're forced to play a boring Knuckles level where you fly around searching for an emerald. This is one of the main reasons why I try to avoid Sonic games these days. I'm afraid that the Sonic levels will be so good, but then the game will get ruined for me once it's time to play as another character. Also, I haven't played Unleashed because I'm scared of the werewolf levels. Not that I'm scared of werewolves, but the fear that I'll hate the whole game because of that one stupid gimmick of playing as a werewolf instead of running around and enjoying the beautiful scenery and music.

No, what I said was either stick to the two characters OR make the other ones play just like Sonic (with some differences in skills). This is exactly what Sonic 2,3&K,Heroes, Advance 1,2 and CD re-release did.

It has nothing to do with Knuckles or any character in themselves, its how they play.

Do you have the PC port of Generations? If so, you could just wait for the Sonic Unleashed mod to be released. There's also two Unleashed levels from the mod available to play as it is right now for Generations.

And there go the wishes for flying cars again.

I understand but I don't understand at the same time.

I don't think it's wishing for flying cars,
more like... wishing for some good old formulas to be used again.
...
Right?

Who's been wishing for flying cars?

Not only that, I gave you the opportunity to say what you'd like to see in a Sonic game but you never fully answered the question. So until you tell us what you'd like to see in a Sonic game (in terms of actual gameplay, not features or specific storylines), that you find to be a reasonable expectation of SEGA, then I think that's pretty much a moot point.
JOJ650s wrote:wishing for some good old formulas to be used again.
Pretty much my view on the whole thing. Use what worked before and return to more classic gameplay like that of Sonic Adventure (Sonic's levels that is) or a mix of Unleashed and Adventure.

Sorry, answering too many stuff at once again. OR running rampant in my train of thought. ADHD does that, you know.

Anyway, I said that I wanted more customization in Sonic games. Building stages would especially be nice.

Are you sure SEGA can handle that? What if you might be, dare I say, wishing for flying cars?

You asked me what I wanted from a Sonic game. I gave you my answer. Not wishing for flying cars.

I asked you what you wanted out of a Sonic game in terms of gameplay. I already said in my original prompt that stuff like level editors don't count. :(

And your idea of Sonic and Shadow teaming up would be more of a story idea, not really a gameplay concept.

In that case, I want the gameplay to be faster. Something that'll blow away everyone's minds. Faster than how they did it in Colors, Unleashed, AND Generations.

Is that better? :eh:

Also, I think creation is actually a part of gameplay. Just look at Little BIG Planet. Just saying.

Yes, thank you. :)

Well, true, LBP's big gimmick is user creation, but when you boil it down, its just a generic platformer with extra physics aspects thrown in (from what I've seen, at least). That to me, at least, is LBP's gameplay. So I think that's kind of like saying that the fact that Sonic Generations is moddable makes it part of the "gameplay".

But most importantly, it wasn't what I was asking for. So even if our definitions of "gameplay" differ, you're not really answering my question unless it follows how I defined it, for the question.
