Where do you guys want to see Sonic go, in terms of gameplay? I know you had the idea of a level factory, DeadManReedeemed. But I'd like to narrow down my question to just how each level would play.

Me for instance, I feel Sonic Generations perfectly captured the modern \ boost gameplay and what its like to be the fastest thing alive. So where I would like to see Sonic go next, is to combine Classic and Modern Sonic gameplay (aka polished Sonic Adventure 1 gameplay ). Where instead of boosting you rely on the spin dash...I also don't think this would slow the gameplay too much...because Sonic Adventure 1's speed worked just fine for this. I also want a fully controllable camera, like most modern 3rd person \ platformers have.

And Super Sonic could still work with the "boasting" model of gameplay. So that we're not spoiled with the fast speed, which is what made Super Sonic so great in the classic games. In the modern games, Super Sonic is a glorified invincibility (and you can hover \ fly a little). But there's no real change in speed.

What do you guys want to see?

Well, a game called Sonic Dash is coming to mobile phones. Also, has anyone besides me noticed that Sonic the Fighters and Virtua Fighter have very similar play styles?


Anyway, I still think a custom game maker Sonic game still has a shot. Maybe Sega could team with Media Molecule or something.

Yeah, kinda. It was just an idea. It was going to happen in the form of Sonic Factory, but as I said it got cancelled.

But what would you like to see in terms of the actual Sonic gameplay? I already stated in my original prompt that stuff like level editors don't count. :P

A game starring mainly Shadow and Sonic. Sonic has the easier stages, and Shadow has a more darker version of them. And they have to work together and whatnot. I was thinking about doing this in Flash, but I am not up to that level yet.

I actually wish they made Sonic Adventure 2 like that. Instead of having the other characters. Just stuck to Sonic and Shadow (or made the other characters play like them, similar to how Sonic 3 did with Knux and Tails).

But what about in terms of gameplay? That sounds more like a story aspect to me.

If people play Sonic so they can play scavenger or mech gunning levels, they shouldn't be playing Sonic. It'd be like going to Taco Bell and ordering a bunch of tacos, but you not only get a 3rd of the amount of tacos that you ordered but the other two 3rds are replaced with hot dogs and burgers...to which you would ask "if I wanted hot dogs or burgers, I'd go to places that specialize in hot dogs or burgers!"

Yeah, and they even ruined the formula of the Knuckles levels in SA1. In SA1 the emerald shards could be found in any order, but in SA2 you could only find them in a certain order (so your radar won't go off even if the 2nd or 3rd shard is right in your face). Also, in SA2 they always found the dumbest places to put the pieces, whereas I felt in SA1 they were usually in more obvious locations. And oh yeah, they ruined all of Knuckles' great level music with bad rap (like Meteor Herd, if they took out the rap vocals, you could hear its amazing sci-fi ambient homage).

But really, SA2's biggest mistake is that they forced you to play as the other characters. Forcing to cycle through 3 different types of gameplay can be very abrasive because you can never just focus on one gameplay style and get better at that.

And since SA1 didn't make you play the other characters? They felt extra, which made Sonic still the core of the game, in terms of gameplay and story wise (Sonic had the most levels \ longest story and you still played Sonic in the final storyline..whereas SA2 ruined things with "teamwork" in the last story). If I was go back to my fast food analogy, the other characters in SA1 would be some kind of a happy meal toy or a side of fries. So even if you thought Big the Cat or Amy Rose were horrible to play, you still got the cheeseburger you ordered.

I thought Amy Rose was okay in Adventure, but Big was atrocious. I honestly was considering not even completing the game just because of that campaign. Though, once you get used to the fishing mechanic, it becomes very easy, and the campaign is pretty short.
