Hahaha, I have not played beta, though I found the demo was not that bad.
Though, I think it could have been better, but it's not bad for Lego.

I would imagine a lot of ex-LEGOists are playing Minecraft since they are kinda similar (or?) games - maybe you could try find some forums that are still live for the game or try search for connection (such as based on their nicknames) through Minecraft forums?
