I skimmed most of that but we can bond better if we actually have to work for stuff, not even the admins will be using creative mode except for Jerusalem and the designated Creative area, so you can still pretty much do what you want but people won't be able to fly around and build fantastical statues everywhere. (Well, actually, they can. They just have to work for the resources).

We had a lot of change and development before creative mode, it's just that a wave of new players came right before it came out and some admins gave it to them, leading to huge buildings everywhere.

Graej,

Thank you for posting your thoughts on this. It's always good to get more perspectives as to what the players want/need.

Believe me when I say "A LOT of thought has been put into this, as well as what we feel best for the server."

I'm sure you know that already.

My view on this is that we ARE going to have to change in order to create a fair and FUN server. There is nothing worse than power-struggles, jealousy, and rage-quitting/griefing. The aim (hopefully fulfilled) of our OP's is to level the playing field for all players, so that much/all of these arguments will not exist. It is also our goal to create an organized atmosphere, not for anti-griefing necessarily, but for the zoning of themed areas that reflect the build-styles of the people of this server, but do not conflict with each other. For Example: Graej, your statues, while very creative and well-thought out, may be appreciated more in an area where Spongebob can be built also... but not next to a Lord of the Rings themed castle.

The result of these plans is not necessarily going to be easy for ANY of us at first to accept. We ALL enjoyed the quick flying/building that Creative enjoys giving. So, to compensate for this as well, a new portal will be built (using a couple of the mods) which will bring you to a world where that is very acceptable. There will be warp permissions added to that warp, so that only those who've been approved for Creative can view and build there.

So, as you can see, we are trying VERY hard to accomodate play styles, and themes within this new Minecraft world. While we may not always agree on its methods or limitations, we can all agree to be as patient as possible for this next month or so when these changes do affect us all, and then hopefully have a lot of fun when this dust settles!

Although I run the server, keep the power on and backups going etc I really don't play on it much to warrant a vote. I can kill cows to make leather armor but my building skills are undeveloped :) Since the server is in my basement that entitles me to admin mode and it comes in handy since I'm relatively easy to get a hold of and can admin things in a pinch.

Here's my 0.02 regardless

I love the creations, you guys are awesome and doing wonderful things. The problem I see is that everything is too close together and it's a little chaotic, cool, but chaotic.

I see that there are two camps of people..those that like to build stuff without mining and those who want their creations to be 100% authentic. I respect both sides of the camp, but I have no idea on how to implement that..that's where I thought warp zones come into play.

Should we zone things out or would it be easier to have two servers? (donations are always welcome BTW)

I was assuming that people were on board with a new map when the final version came out and migrating some stuff over over time. Let me know if that's still the case.

Pretty much removed my posts as all the decisions were made prior to any of the posts.

You're right... and wrong. Some of these decisions were talked about in game. Others however were talked about in various posts within this forums extensively. Some decisions had polls on them. Not every mod was discussed however, but I started a thread for that specific purpose.

I totally admit to not being perfect, so if there is something you'd like to see out of there, or if you'd like to have your say about the various mods that we will use, then feel free to visit that thread. There very well may have been something we should look at more carefully, or should add/remove. :)

I did read your initial post on this topic, but I am not sure what exactly is wrong, or what you'd like to see. Most of your initial safeguard suggestions are already in-place, or at least will be when the server goes live. If it is a personal issue, please feel free to PM me.

As ccgr stated, Creative will be allowed within a warp world. And, I know for a fact that you wouldn't be the only member here building there ;) The only stipulation would be that Creative not be used outside that themed area. I hope this helps??

Yeeeaaah, I don't really see a problem if there is literally a portal to the creative world within easy reach?

That's the intention anyhow. :) I can put portals underneath the Temple (when it gets put in), right beside all of the Underground farms. I'd be perfect for the spot, and VERY close to spawn.

Oh, and with a world guard (where we can specify who gets access to build in certain places, or even use buttons etc.), we can actually limit who has access to the portal rooms themselves.. which would actually fulfill the need for a portal permission mod. I've seen this method used before (with pistons), and it works VERY well. You can't dig through the pistons, and you can't access the buttons on the wall... so, yeah.. pretty nice way to keep newbs out, and the good guys in.

we need to find a way to keep stuff that will be spawned in the creative mode area in the creative mode area so it will not contaminate the market.

The only way to do that is to make a new server really. It won't happen unless the trusted people who have Creative are GENUINELY honest enough to follow the server rules not to sell spawned goods back to the market. Can members really withstand that kind of pressure, when they really want to buy something? One would probably say - why would they NEED to buy anything if they have Creative anyhow. However, there will be members who will like to swap between both play styles... just because its fun to do both. Having the temptation to make some quick, large sums of money to help you out would be something that I could almost guarantee would be exploited when less people are on.

I guess the next question would be: "Is our server really equipped enough to have 2 servers running??" Now, there is an option to have another server running, but a size-limited one. If you made your world only 2000x2000 blocks wide, there's a great chance it will play without any issues at all, and have less lag. This is very much possible, and would have its own rules (Basically none lol, with the exception of Whitelist and a couple griefer-related ones) I would hope that someone other than myself lead that world and its decisions, if this is really something we want to look at seriously.

Another thing we need to think about within this server is the fact that we are spawning building blocks for our members. Therefore, we need to make a market ONLY for the items that we will not be providing for them: So, we need to find a way to lock the recipe ability of gold, iron, diamond block from being broken down to its ingot forms. From there, we can just limit what can/can't be sold within the market by creating no value for those blocks. So, basically, everything that isn't spawned by OPs (So everything except building blocks - which is actually a lot of items still) will be sold on the market.

Blocks are given a value both when they're mined (for income), and when they're sold (for profit). Another pluggin to the econ mod is the ability to post signs stating what you are selling within a chest (below the sign).. stating how many blocks, and for what particular amount you wish to gain from the selling of that block. This allows users to create stores, and user-generated economy within the game, both for profit, and for the gain of the person purchasing that hard-to-find/obtain crafted item. Income is not subjected entirely to stores alone, but also by actual mining/using of blocks, and also by simply logging in every day.

The threat of the stability of the economy lies with the 'need' to create those items being sold if Creative members are able to sell them after spawning them. After something like that catches on, there will be no market.. as everything will then be demanded by other users to be spawned as this is both unfair, and uncool. To allow this to happen on our server would be very unwise. We want to promote fairness, Christian ethics, and team playing. How can this be accomplished if such a risk were to be taken. One 'slip-up' could cause a lot of drama.

I know it sounds like I'm overdoing it here, but I remember this happening on another server, and almost EVERYONE left, with the exception of about 3 of us. As believers in Christ, this would be a shame for such a thing to happen here. I hope all of us realize the significance and importance of people getting along, and playing nice, and playing fair. I've met a lot of great people, and I honestly can say, I enjoy meeting EVERY one of you!

Ahh, so mining/placing blocks would remain unchanged in that you can still do that as much as you like?

And then with the income you generate, you could buy things you don't feel like mining/making and could also buy--if we get plugins that would allow specific residences in a city--certain amounts of land in a city, outside of which is sort of "freebuild"?

Exactly :)

Our Themed areas would have price tags allotted to the plots. Not sure how large they'll be, but that's the plan. I think that the only issue will be that the 'castles' and LoTR-themed locations will be large, and somewhat underground. It may be that these areas will be sectioned off by the owners for 'stores', 'houses' and 'storage' within those giant locations. I don't know yet. We'll have to discuss that more.
