Do I have to own the beta version of minecraft in order to play on your server? I almost have my five posts, but what is the use of being put on the whitelist if I can't play. LOL

If you obtained your game legally and in a legit manner, having paid for the game, your game client should update automatically to the most recent patch, which is what we run.
