Cantore wrote:My hope here is that it's just the sky line that's higher, not the distance from the bedrock to the ocean height. If this is the case, we may have to find a way to make a giant staircase up 32 blocks to get to the next level LOL. If it were ANYTHING else but height change here, I think we could get away with an easy shift into a new patch.. but when they mess with heights... it's really hard to say how the server will decifer between previous map heights and the new ones... or even how much this will lag our server when the packettes are sent in two different formats in relation to positions on the map.
My hope is also DEFINITELY to carry on with this map. However, if it lags SOoo badly that none of us can play because of these changes, then I'd much rather start over... as hard/tough/frustrating as this is to do... so consistantly.
Having said all that, let's wait and see, and hope and pray that we will not be severely affected by these changes with regard to server status. I am with ChickenSoup on this. I will be happy to carve a way up to the next level if I have to, if only to keep this map. I think it's been our best map yet! I absolutely LOVE the creativity coming out in our players with this map, and the teamwork and such that I have seen so far. It's been great... too great to lose too easily. We will do our best to keep this map.

ChickenSoup wrote:Pretty much this. And I'm pretty sure (not 100%, obivously) that it's from "ground" or "sea" height to sky limit. From the videos I have seen, I have heard that previous maps worked all right and that this basically raised the sky but didn't shift the entire world around. What I'm saying is that we won't go from 64 blocks of groudn and 64 blocks of air to 128 and 128; instead, we will probably (from what I understand) have 64 blocks of ground and 192 blocks of air.

Mods-For-Minecraft.com wrote:Jeb did not change terrain generation, but just raised the “roof of the world” to 256 (it was 128) so you can build higher up.
Not sure how this will work with SMP, however, my guess is that we'll be fine.Mods-For-Minecraft.com wrote:Remember back a couple of weeks ago when Jeb announced he will be raising world height? Well he did it now with the new “Anvil” map format. It’s not new for Minecraft’s map format to be changed, as back in beta they switched to McRegion for better performance, but it’s usually considered unpleasant by players. Do not fear though, as Minecraft will convert all your maps to the new format, and keep a copy just in case.

Last time, we gave ourselves all the materials so we created the whole thing out of iron blocks. They're ivory white, and it matched the picture closest. If the height limit is doubled, the height is gonna be enough but we might have to dig down a little bit for comfort. I'll post what I've got so far later when I'm free.
