Postby DarthDapor » Sun Dec 16, 2007 4:50 am

So yeah...this is to determine what the majority of the people on this site listen to...I'm curious as to how this is going to go...

Secular. That doesn't mean that I don't listen to Christian music. Also, keep in mind that "secular" doesn't mean swear words, explicit lyrics, ect.

There is some great Christian music, but unfortunately not enough for me.

I agree completely.

My favorite bands are as follows:

Metallica
Led Zeppelin
Megadeth
AC/DC
Iron Maiden
Demon Hunter
Black Sabbath
Rush

The list goes on and on.

As you can see, the only Christian band I listen to constantly to is Demon Hunter.

Christian rock has taken a turn for the absolute worst in recent years, prompting my change to listening to secular music almost exclusively. I don't even know who's popular in the Christian music genre anymore. :?

Though I do like Leeland's song "Tears of the Saints."

Wow, this surprises me. I listen to secular music almost exclusively, too. And I agree that most popular Christian music has gone downhill in recent years.

Good Christian music is just harder to find. It's not all Michael W. Smith and Chris Tomlin out there, you know. Finding it is just the hard part.

Some of the better Christian music is more mainstream, e.g. Switchfoot and Relient K and Hawk Nelson, although some of it is an "acquired taste", like Switchfoot's "Oh! Gravity" kinda stinks until you listen to it a whole lot, it just takes a while to really like it. Well, IMO.

I must say, though, that the majority of, *shudder*, "CCM" sounds exactly the same and is sort of a creative slump. What I mean is that we need something fresh and new.

Anyway, soooo I would say that secular music has a lot more talent for the most part.

I listen to:

Switchfoot
Skillet
tobyMac
Kevin Max
dc talk (yes, I still own those old albums....)
Relient K (although not as much as I used to, and not as much as my sister, who is a die-hard fan)
Sanctus Real (they're ok)
GRITS (once in a great while. I'm not a huge fan)
Hawk Nelson
Weird Al Yankovich (spl?)

some others I can't remember the name of. Oh yeah, and I enjoy some movie soundtracks, although I don't own any.
My name is ChickenSoup and I have several flavors in which you may be interested

I also have a slightly PG-13 tumblr that you may not enjoy

I've been listening to more secular music lately. Air1 has been playing a lot of annoying music, so I listen to a rock/rap station most of the time instead. As for CD's, it's mixed. About half and half.

I listen to a rather large mix of secular/Christian artists including:

12 Stones
blessthefall
Blindside
Brand New
Breaking Benjamin (on occasion)
Chasing Victory
The Classic Crime
Demon Hunter
Emery
Haste the Day
Kids in the Way
Linkin Park
Mae
Paramore
Thrice

I could list more, but I think that will suffice for now. I tend to stay away from bands that have explicit lyrics.

The only Christian band I've listened to and liked was TFK. Otherwise, I like SlipKnot, Korn, Papa....j/k.

The stuff I listen to is:
Evanescence
Linkin Park
Thousand Foot Krutch
Iron Maiden
Nickelback
Creed
Alter Bridge (this may be Christian; I don't know)
Hawthorne Heights (sorta...)

There's more but I can't think of it right now.

Love Blink...although some of their music vids scare me.

Namely the one with the lyrics, "And we'll have halloween on christmas." Can't remember the name.

SCARYYYYY!

Edit: It's "I miss you"

If you think that's scary, avoid Cradle of Filth at all costs.
