And I'm currently reading through Second Foundation. Woo

I finished the Foundation series....

....and I'm now reading Atlas Shrugged. Gogo objectivism.

But so far, it's as dense as heck....I hope I can finish all 1168 pages....

It's funny how that was learned from a game instead of a book. Ironic even.

It's funny to me how some Republicans have basically embraced Objectivist ideas and thinking, even though Objectivism is completely and utterly incompatible with Christianity and the teachings of Jesus.

That's not to say the answer necessarily lies with the Democratic party, some of those guys have other ideas that go against the teachings of Jesus.

Anyway, I've been reading through A Song of Ice and Fire, ye olde dark fantasy series by GRRM.

It's dark, it's gritty, it's morbid, it's full of death and destruction and immorality and evil. and I have yet to find one character who I could really call "good". Even the children! It's not that most of the kids are evil(some are really evil, of course), but they only reason they aren't evil is because they're too young to do a whole lot of damage and they manage to cause plenty of trouble age notwithstanding.

As for the adults, the less said about their burning and raping and pillaging and looting, the better.

Great series. I've finished the first two, books three and four just came in the mail! Now if only GRRM would release A Dance with Dragons. I fear it is becoming a new Duke Nukem Forever.

Yeah, I hope he actually finishes the series before he dies. It's on my to-read-list.

I've been reading Henrik Ibsen's Brand.

I've also determined what I dislike about modern books, and ebooks in particular. They have no soul.

This particular copy of Brand is from 1908, soft leather bound, and well aged. Reading it transcends simply turning pages and gathering information. Reading it is a far more sensual experience, an altogether gratifying combination of the feel of supple leather, the smell of aged paper, and the soft rustle of the pages. Quite a far cry from the modern mass produced paperbacks that exist simply for a quick thrill.

You're referring to "popcorn novels," as opposed to actual literature... which still exists, even in the modern world.

Does literature exist today? Certainly.

On the other hand, proper bookbinding is entirely lacking in the modern commercial book industry, which was my point in the first place.

Why? Because it's cheaper. It doesn't last longer, it's not better looking by any standards, it's just cheap. I mean, sure, there are some half-nice books made today. They also cost an arm and a leg.

Yeah, I've been waiting for Dance for what seems like ages. Really hope he finishes it up soon, cuz THIS WAIT IS A KILLIN'.

Series is awesome though, truly some well written fantasy. Crap, now I gotta go read the first four books again. x_x
