To emwork, it's a bit more than just a game store. It serves as a game library and games community system. Easy to keep track of all the games you have (so you don't lose or forget any), and you can add your friends, see what they have and what they're playing, and join along with them.

If I'm playing Dungeon Defenders and a friend jumps in the game, I Ctrl + Tab to open the Steam console and I invite them to my game.

And I stay away from iTunes as much as I can.

what?! why are you guys comparing iTunes (a music and movie market) to Steam?!?!(a videogame market?!?!)
They are nothing like each other! thats like comparing a DVD to a gamedisc.
Sure~ iTunes has some apps but really, apps aren't real~ games even if there are 40,000 of them. <- (sarcastic eyeroll)
Sure~ Steam has some of the best known games in the gaming world, but you need a Nice or better computer to run them.

really, both are amazing in there own way, one is in NO WAY better than the other.
If you dont like one of the two, your missing out. :-P

(I was holding that in for like 10mins)

So, making a comparison of the functionality of the software brings out this kind of response? Good to know.

For the record, I believe my contrast is perfectly valid. Both have the following features:
You can buy digital goods from their store.
When you purchase them, they are tied to your account.
When you log into your account through the client on a different computer, you can download items from your collection onto that computer.

This isn't hard, guys. :| The only real difference (beyond the goods available) is that iTunes has a number of restrictions on the number of computers your account can be bound to. The take is that while iTunes music is DRM free, Steam games are not.

/leaves this thread.

chackworth is my id.

I think the iTunes example was mostly accurate. The exception would be that you can only be logged in at one computer at a time on Steam (while online anyway). Though I have never been able to redownload stuff to another computer...of course I never have really tried that hard.
